According to Mrs. Diesye Nsirm, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) who briefed journalists at the Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt, at about 12.45 p.m. on Monday, the police command received a distress call from a victim who was robbed of his cash.

She said that officers and men on patrol were alerted that robbers in a white Toyota Hilux pick up van had robbed another victim of his KIA Serato car which they used as a get away car.

The robbers were ambushed by the police and in the ensuing gun battle, the six robbers were shot dead.

Their bodies were in the Toyota Hilux they used for their operation.

Out of the N2.1 million allegedly snatched from their victim, only N500,000 cash in N1,000 denomination was recovered by the police.

Other items recovered include two AK 47 rifles, 3.8 special magazines, jackets and two number plates.

In an answer to a question that one of the suspects among those killed may not be a robber but an innocent passerby who tried to escape from being caught in the cross-fire, the DCP claimed that even the so-called escapee was caught with an AK 47 rifle.
