The companies are Dangote Sugar Refinery in Apapa; Bua Flour Mill, Apapa; Bua Oil Mill, Oba Akran, Ikeja and Square Food, Mushin, Lagos. General Manager of LASEPA, Engineer Rasheed Shabi who disclosed this, said the four manufacturing companies violated the provisions of LASEPA Edict N0. 9 of 1997, sections 22 and 23.
Shabi said the companies erred by not submitting the mandatory Technical Reports, Environmental Assessment (EA), Environmental Audit Report (EAR) and for failing to obtain permit for the chemical and petroleum storage, thus violating section 21 of the edict.
He stated that the companies would remain closed until all the conditions for a friendly industrial environment were satisfactorily complied with.
These, he said, included an immediate abatement of the discharge of untreated effluents into the environment, immediate installation of an appropriate effluent treatment plant, with the submission of a phased action plan for abatement within seven days.
Engineer Shabi declared that the action plan, especially the installation of the appropriate effluent treatment plant, would be closely monitored to ensure compliance with stipulated rules.
He re-emphasised the state government’s zero tolerance for any form of violation of environmental regulations and standards.
He urged stakeholders to cooperate with the Agency and the government on environmental protection.
