The carnival, which took place on December 26, lasted till the early hours of the following day. It was peaceful until a group of armed youths, called Punche Boys, allegedly from the neighbouring Mushin, stormed the estate and started harassing people.
Shops and other food vendors had their wares looted while innocent and unsuspecting girls were chased to obscured corners and raped.
A source was quoted as saying that a mild argument between the Punche Boys and some youths of the estate degenerated into free-for-all. The source said broken bottles and other dangerous weapons were used.
Two persons died and one, identified as a member of Punche Boys, was rushed to a nearby hospital. One of the victims’ lifeless body lay at the Church Street, venue of the fight till 4.00am, yesterday, when policemen from Ejigbo Division, were alerted.
It was gathered that the other victim gave up the ghost in hospital.
When contacted, the state police spokesperson, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, said he was yet to be briefed, adding that he would contact the Divisional Police Officer of the area for details.
