How singer Damoche was murdered by unidentified gunmen

Damilola Olaniyan, a fast-rising hip hop artiste and final year student in the Faculty of Management Science at the Lagos State University, LASU, was Thursday murdered by two unidentified gunmen.

The late Olaniyan, a.k.a. Damino Damoche, became popular through his lewd song, Obo To She.
Damoche was expected to perform at the school’s Dean Cup Final at the LASU Sports Centre few minutes before he was murdered in front of the institution’s gate. The unidentified two gunmen rode on commercial motorcycle popularly known as okada.

The LASU Students’ Union Public Relations Officer, Stephen Olaleke, while speaking with reporters yesterday morning, confirmed that “Damoche was killed by two unidentified gunmen outside the school premises. Yes, they came on bike, and after shooting him, they fled.”

The late Damoche was rumoured to be a member of Eiye Confraternity, but Olaleke denied it, arguing that “we didn’t know him to be a cultist. We don’t even know the identity of his killers, so we can’t ascertain why they killed him for now.”

Damoche, who was murdered at about 3:30p.m, was said to have gone to the institution’s Sports Centre with his friends after receiving a lecture. His department, Banking and Finance, was to play the Deans Cup football match final against Insurance department students. The match was later suspended due to his death.

“He was already seated at the venue of the match with his friends, and had already said that he would perform a track or two at half time. But few minutes later, he and his friends stood up, only for us to hear about 15 minutes later that Damoche had been shot dead. It was very painful,” Abiodun, a 300-level Banking and Finance student of the school said.

Also speaking to our reporter this morning, an executive of the LASU Students’ Union who craved anonymity, said efforts are on-going to “calm the students and make the atmosphere conducive.”

Only few students were seen on the campus today, but Olaleke claimed that it has nothing to do with Thursday’s shooting incident.

“There are few lectures on Fridays; so many students don’t come to the campus. But honestly, the situation is under control. The school authorities have played a vital role in ensuring that there is peace.”

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in and around the school as mobile policemen have been drafted to strategic positions.

The late Damoche was shot on his head and arm. He died on the spot, and his body has been deposited in the mortuary.

Some of his songs include Street Madness Freestyle, Follow Me Wine and Pop Champaign.
