O.A.U's Gist: O.AU's Tradition Of "do ba le"

By Akpan Nsikan

The age-long tradition of asking artistes to prostrate before an
audience of O.A.U students known as "do ba le" in yoruba, is something
that is getting mixed reactions from the students. And if they refuse
to "do ba le", the students would start singing songs asking the artiste
to leave the stage.

Some studets have come out to say that such tradition should be
faced out, since it is only a form of embarrassment to the artiste.

They gave their reasons being that most times these artistes come for
these shows for a token fee.   Others hold the view that the tradition
should continue saying that the artistes can not be where they are
today if they(the students) didn't support them and so the artistes
should be willing to pay homage to them.
As the debate continues, we believe that the last is yet to be heard of this.
