10 die, 15 injured in Benin-Ore road crash



BENIN—NO fewer than 10 persons were, yesterday, killed in a fatal road accident at Ovia River Bridge, along Benin-Ore-Shagamu dual carriage-way.
 
Over 15 passengers were said to have been injured in the accident which involved two commercial buses traveling in the opposite direction.

One of the buses, according to an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, was that of an Nsukka-based Peace Mass Transit with number plate XU 638 NKE and was headed for PortHarcout from Ibadan.

The other was a Toyota Siena with number plate XY 382 AGL, belonging to Triple Star Transport Company Ltd and heading to the Eastern part of the country from Lagos.

Vanguard gathered that both vehicles were trying to beat the heavy traffic on their side of the bad road when the drivers lost control of their vehicles and ran into each other.

The FRSC official said about 15 persons were rescued from the wreckage of the two vehicles and rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Benin.

He called on Nigerians to be wary of over-speeding as the year comes to an end.

Meanwhile, another road traffic official said an identity card belonging to one Mr. OLUWASEGUN was inside the Toyota and carried a residential address: 34, CHOBA ROAD, PORT-HARCOURT.

People traveling by road during this festive season should be very careful and pray hard....
