The Return of Jenifa May Be Removed From Cinemas

 Posted By Doherty Joseph

On Saturday October 7, stakeholders and the heavyweights in the make-believe industry in Nigeria, the big players in the music industry in Nigeria, and other entertainment lovers converged at the Muson Centre, Onikan, for the premiere of the much awaited and highly hyped flick from Funke Akindele.

Stars like Banky W, Wizkid, Eldee The Don, Denrele Edun, Eniola Badmus, and many others all came out to support Funke Akindele’s premiere of her latest film, which makes it the third as a producer. First lady of Lagos State, Mrs Abimbola Fashola was also a guest at the event.

The premiere also marked the official release date for the film to be shown at the three cinemas in Lagos; Silverbird Cinemas, Genesis Cinemas, both on the Island, and Ozone Cinemas, which is on the mainland.

The Return of Jenifa, was a sequel to Jenifa, the first produced work from Funke. From there on, Jenifa became the name Funke became to be called afterwards. For many, they have anticipated the release of the film, which was meant to be seen at the cinemas. The premiere of the film at Muson was very successful amid pomp and pageantry.

But confirmed information reaching us indicates that the movie might not stay longer than expected at the cinemas. The reason for this we learnt is connected with the fact that the sponsor of the film, Alhaji Akeem Olatunji Balogun, who is known in the movie marketing business as Olasco, will not benefit from the recent deal she had with Funke.

His movie marketing company, Olasco Films and Records Nigeria Ltd, is the marketing company for the film. Our close source reliably disclosed to us that Olasco is contemplating on taking the movie away from the cinemas.

“The movie will not stay long as expected in the cinemas, Olasco invested heavily in The Return of Jenifa, he was never thinking of taking the film to the cinemas, but Funke insisted on taking it there for premiere and consequently, showing it at the cinemas also,” our source told us.

Olasco has been the major sponsor of all Funke’s films. Jenifa part one and two, Omo Ghetto part one and two, and now The Return of Jenifa, which is a sequel to Jenifa, the film that shot Funke into a sudden limelight.

When we asked if Olasco never signed an agreement with Funke, in terms of percentage from the cinema proceeds as the marketer and sponsor of the film, our source said, “that is where the problem is, Olasco did the film for him to sell on VCD and not for cinemas market.”.................

“For him to recoup his spent money on the movie, he needs to pull the movie away from the cinemas and release it under his marketing outfit on VCD, this way, he can make his money back. This development is really disturbing him,” our source said further.
For now, the movie is reported to have grossed about 10million naira at the cinemas.

South Sudan wants to join Commonwealth

Posted on October 30th, 2011 at 05:40pm

The world's newest nation, South Sudan, wants to join the Commonwealth, Stephen Cutts, the bloc's Assistant Secretary General, has said.

The landlocked African country, which declared independence from Sudan in July after a long civil war, had recognised the potential benefits of becoming part of the 54-nation grouping, Cutts said on Friday.

"The newest country on Earth, South Sudan, expressed an interest in joining the Commonwealth almost immediately after it came into existence," he told Australian Broadcasting Corporation television.

"I understand there are other countries (interested in joining)," he added, without naming the nations.

Cutts said South Sudan's interest showed that the Commonwealth, comprised mainly of former British colonies, remained relevant and offered benefits to its members.

"I think it's testament to the fact that in the broader world there is recognition that the Commonwealth has a potential for significant value," he said.

Fledgling nation

A Commonwealth business forum which preceded this week's leaders' meeting in Perth resulted in deals worth some US$10.5 bn, most centred on the African resources sector, organisers estimate.

South Sudan gained independence from the mainly Arab north after its population of more than eight million, who are predominantly Christian or follow traditional African religions, overwhelmingly backed a referendum on secession in January.

The fledgling nation, which is also one of the world's poorest countries, became a member of the United Nations on July 14 and joined the African Union on July 28.

Neither of the two countries that have most recently joined the Commonwealth, Rwanda and Mozambique, have colonial links to Britain

Don Jazzy: How the Duncan Mighty and Terry G deal went wrong Mo' Hits producer and CEO Don Jazzy spoke on the meeting with Duncan Mighty that almost got him signed to the label.

...
Q: Was Duncan Mighty ever on your label?

I like his music and he’s talented. And everybody knows I like to attend concerts. Once anyone has good music, I’ll be there to support. I didn’t get that much love from artistes when I was growing and I would have loved that. If I could attend Tuface, Daddy Showkey’s concerts, that’ll encourage us to move on. I also give them advice on a daily basis. So whenever I see someone with good music, I go all out to support him and it doesn’t have anything to do with competition.

Anytime my boys go to perform in Port-Harcourt, they always tell me that those guys there love Duncan Mighty. So I invited him to Lagos and he came to the house. I told the boys that I’d like to work with him. We had a meeting and I wanted to sign him or do a promotion deal with him. And since he’s also a producer, maybe he’ll be as a sort of co-producer for my label to help reduce some work load. But now, the same thing that happened with Terry G at some point happened. Because if it’s Mo’hits Records, everybody gets excited.

We haven’t signed any deal and he went ahead to tell people that he’s been signed to Mo’Hits. I was in America when I read on the internet that Duncan Mighty has been signed to Mo’Hits Records. And I hadn’t made up my mind yet about him. When I read it, I had to deny on the internet. I was hoping that after I’ve signed him, then I could tell everyone about it, but he took shine away from me. I called Bankuli and asked how the gist came about. I was told he’d already granted interviews saying he’s been signed on by Mo’hits to work as a producer and vocal coach. I ended the deal.

Q: What about the JJC thing?

We were working together but had a misunderstanding. I don’t want to start defending myself or say it’s his fault. I’ll gain nothing by putting him down.

D'Banj and Ghanaian Actress Nadia Buari in Hot Romance?

 Poseted on October 28, 2011 at 01:40pm

By Doherty Joseph

From Stella Dimoko Korkus' page in Encomium magazine:
The crooner is currently in a hush hush romance with Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari. The actress was spotted a fortnight ago, precisely on Friday and Saturday,October 14th and 15th 2011 at the crooner’s house where she spent the weekend and paraded herself in a sexy night attire.
Other sources also confirm that the two have been an item long before now and have been spotted many times together in Ghana as well.
I know for sure Nadia dated Republic of Congo musician, Fally Ipupa, Chelsea and Ghana player Michael Essien...this one I'm not 100% sure...though I heard from a very reliable source that it's true. From Genny to Nadia? Ashewo man...:-

D'banj never dated the actress Genevieve Nnaji

The singer finally speaks on the widely reported affair with the star actress in a recent interview... 'We're close and we both understand that things couldn't work out'
Q: D'banj on the widely reported affair with actress Genevieve Nnaji:

I really can't remember, it cost between N4m to N5m. I 'm not too sure. But I think it's a beautiful idea if not for the way everyone is trying to go about it. I think Genevieve is a stunner I could date or love her. But we didn't date. She's my friend and a star you know. We're close and we both understand that things couldn't work out. That song was recorded two years before the video was released and it remains my biggest song ever. I wanted to make a statement with it. We had options of whom to use in the video, but at the end of the day, we saw that it's an African song and by that time I had already played it in about fifty weddings.

Am I good in bed? How I'm suppose to know? I think you should ask the women, but please don't ask a virgin. That song is misleading them. When you say how big is the koko?, then they want to see if it's that big. But when some come, they see what they either want to see or don't expect to see.

Q: So are you saying that the song has put you into a lot of trouble?

Yes, a lot of time. But to find a lady that really likes one genuinely makes me paranoid. Of late, I dated a lady called Dana and she doesn't even know that I'm a musician. I told her I'm a businessman. She's based in America and I like it. Is it wrong? Even if I date a foreigner, I still have to come back home.

Q: Are you saying you haven't met any Nigerian lady?

It's really hard to find because how will I know she likes me genuinely? My mother said I should go to Bishop Oyedepo's Church, Living Faith to find a wife.

GOODBYE SIASIA

Posted by Doherty Joseph
October 28, 2011 at 11:10am
Will embattled Super Eagles coach,Samson Siasia be a footnote in Nigerian football history after today's emergency meeting of the Nigeria Football Federation in Abuja?

The federation's technical sub-committee had recommended the termination of the coach's N5M a month contract after making history as the first coach to supervise Nigeria's non-qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations under a democractic dispensation.A certain Patrick Ekeji, who now sits as the director general at the National Sports Commission holds the honour of being the first coach who failed to qualify Nigeria for the African mundial albeit his was under a military dispensation in 1986.

Competent sources in the NFF informed Complete Sports last night that Siasia is 70% gone as coach of the Super Eagles but warned thus:This is Nigeria and anything can still happen.

''Siasia is fighting desperately to hold onto the job and I will not be surprised if he manages to get somebody high up there in government to plead his cause and force President Goodluck Jonathan to intervene;,reveals one of he top NFF executive committee member who pleaded not to be named.

Initial rumours in local football circle had it that President Jonathan who happens to come from the same state as Siasia has told the NFF not to touch his annointing. This was soon dispelled as mere name dropping with anti-Siasia group pointing accusing fingers at a certain Moses Siasia, cousin of the embattled Eagles boss who works in the presidency as the one pulling the President Jonathan string.

Unsure of which way the pendulum was swinging, the Honourable Sports Minister,Yusuf Suleiman had to tell the NFF to stay action until he gets an authentic confirmation from the Presidency.

It was reported that the Minister could not get the true stand of the president on the matter and ths has emboldened the NFF chieftains who now believe the coast is clear to tell Siasia to go.

Under Siasia, the Eagles managed a record of five wins, three draws and a loss to Argentina in a rematch in September.

While he failed to lead the country’s ‘B’ team to successfully defend their sub-regional WAFU title.

However, Siasia was never far from controversies as he rowed with some of the team’s top stars like Osaze Odemwingie and Vincent Enyeama, fuelling whispers that he has lost charge of his dressing room.

There have been suggestions that he sought the help of those in high places to keep his job with his position being that he needs more time to build the formidable team 150 million Nigerians dream of.

The technical committee have advised that an expatriate lead the country’s full international team because the local coaches have fallen short.

Has Tonto Dikeh’s Sold Herself to The Devil or what?

October 28, 2011 at 11:55Am
Unarguably one of Nollywood most controversial actress, Tonto Dikeh, who has had a quick rise to fame within a short time in the razzmatazz industry in Nigeria, has thrown herself in the news again.

For this Rivers State born screen beau, who hails from Ikwerre part of the State, swimming in the waters of bad press is not new to her, and as such, she is not concerned about it as she once said that she has grown a very thick skin to whatever anybody writes or says about her.

This position of hers has made people wonder how a lady of her status would not pay a listening ear to what people have been saying about her.

Though some have said that the fact that she was not brought up by her biological mother, who Tonto said died while she was age three, could be the major factor for her nonchalant attitude to life, others have argued that she is not the only person who lost her mother at an early stage in life, so she has no excuse to be controversial.

This time, this lady who almost won the 2006 edition of AMBO Next Movie Star, a reality TV show, is being alleged to have been sold to the devil.

This allegation is coming courtesy of a tattoo picture of Tonto on her back, which she posted on Twitter on October 25. The said picture has generated lots of comments and arguments among fans of this light skinned actress.

A closer look at the controversial photograph reveals a diabolic horn clinched with a set of fingers capping a heart tied with a long hair.
This, as argued by the accusers, is a sign of the devil. They believe that only those that worship, or have a connection with or have sold themselves to the devil carry and bear such sign (horn).

The question on the lips of many is; ‘why would this petrol chemical engineer-cum-actress go this far? Why would she associate herself with the devil, when she should have pitched tent with her maker?’
